Direct Access to Physical Therapy will come in 2015 - SB 690 Passes the House and Senate

The Michigan Physical Therapy Association would like to thank all our members who were actively involved in the process of working to get direct consumer access to physical therapy services in Michigan passed.  Thanks to many efforts, on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, SB 690 was passed out of the full House and today, June 12, 2014 the bill was passed out of the Senate for review and will now go to the governor to be signed.

We thank the bill sponsor, Senator John Moolenaar, for his commitment and service in moving this legislation forward.  We also specially thank Representative Margaret O’Brien and the many co-sponsors of Senate Bills 690-694 for their advocacy and ceaseless efforts.

The bill is to now be signed by Michigan’s Governor, Rick Snyder, within the next couple of weeks.  The bill is expected to go into effect January 1, 2015.  There will be more information at MPTA Fall Conference on the impact and change to physical therapy in Michigan.  Join us October 24-25, 2014 to learn this important information.
