Watch the video to learn the difference between a stretching exercise and a mobility exercise and to hear a helpful illustration.
Difference #1 – The tissue being targeted – In a stretching exercise you are targeting muscle tissue. In a mobility exercise you are targeting joints.
Difference #2 – The goal of the exercise – The goal of a stretching exercise is to lengthen muscle tissue. The goal of a mobility exercise is to increase range of motion in a joint.
Difference #3 – How the exercise is performed – A stretching exercise is held for at least 30 seconds. A mobility exercise is done with repetition rocking into and out of the end range of the joint.
