Aquatic Therapy at The Center

Our aquatic program has been a game changer for so many of our patients. These patients have difficulty or are unable to do exercises on land due to pain, weakness, poor balance, or those who have weight bearing limitations. Aquatic therapy gets people moving who have difficulty moving on land. Here’s how our program works.

Who it Helps

We are able to work with a wide variety of people with many different diagnoses including Multiple Sclerosis, deconditioning, post COVID, post op, general pain, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Fibromyalgia, migraines, pregnancy, balance issues, and many more. We are able to use a variety of exercises and activities to help progress each of our patients in a manageable way by use of balance activities, deep water traction, stretching, low and moderate level exercises, higher level activities such as pool running, functional movements, use of the current to increase challenge, etc.

How it Helps

The buoyancy of the water gives an ease to exercise while continuing to strengthen muscles. It allows for greater range of motion with less pain. This allows for overall improved total body mobility giving patients the ability to walk, squat, and climb steps easier than on land. We keep our pool at a therapeutic 94-95 degrees to allow for less tension and further decreased pain while working on exercises.

Success Story

Many of our patients have seen great improvements while working in the pool noticing better strength, balance, range of motion, and overall well-being. One of our patients gave a great report of how aquatic therapy has helped her. “I felt the point of aquatic therapy was to get me started moving after my back surgery. I’ve been so impressed that as I continue to improve I can still continue to be challenged with increased intensity of exercises. Even though I feel like the pool has helped me get to where I want to be I continue to come because I know I can improve even more and I find it a very beneficial way to challenge me further and help me get better than I thought I could be.”
